Music, Lawsuits, and UNL

By the numbers, the recording industry is targeting the University of Nebraska-Lincoln student body as it tries to stop students from illegally downloading music.
The Recording Industry Association of America said it plans to sue 25 more UNL students, meaning that 61 UNL students, more than at any other U.S. university, have now run afoul of the music business and must agree to pay a pre-lawsuit settlement or battle in court if tracked down.
The RIAA said it potentially will file 805 lawsuits nationwide, which leaves around eight percent to UNL.

"I can't emphasize enough we do not target individual university populations." "It is the music theft we are going after," said Jenni Engebretsen, RIAA spokeswoman.

"The recording industry can pick and choose who they prosecute. I continue to believe that our students have a no better or worse record than any other students in the country with respect to downloading music," said UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman.

A little about Ideal Perception

Formed in the Fall of 2004, Ideal Perception was founded by three friends who desired to make music. From the wake of graduating high school, going to college and losing friends, the band began to write songs in relation to these experiences. After nearly two years of playing together, the boys of "IP" finished their first EP titled "Welcome to Hollywood" in March of 2006. Currently hard at work promoting "Welcome to Hollywood" the band remains busy booking summer shows, helping touring bands, and writing new songs. In just one short year since "IP" hit the scene in the Midwest they have gone from unknown to having their own fan supported and operated North American street team and website. Always ready to rock out and to joke around Ideal Perception has quickly established themselves as not only a band that can rock, but also a band that loves to have fun and more than anything loves to see their fans have fun! Look for the boys of "IP" to play in a city near you!
